What is the point of this download mess? Affilate kickbacks? Just go MEGA ffs

Page 1 of 2Next

Let me begin by saying that I am a big fan of PBTHAL's work (having given up with CD after 30-yrs of trying). Close listening shows that his rips preserve much of the magic that I used to hear from my STD 305M / Hadcock 40 years ago.

However, scanning through this site (and the lovecelery site with a friend's account) reveals the same story: large numbers of dead links and the few that are active are on hosts with 3-50 kb/s speeds that take two-and-a-half days to DL a single LP (or are 'Premium Only'). Apparently, as 'free users' we are "on our own" but WTF is the deal with that? We have to buy Premium access to multiple download sites just to get access (and then when the links aren't dead already?!). What is this -- an Affiliate kickbacks scam? Why not use MEGA if you are truly interested in sharing your work? It's free, super-fast, and permanent. I would love to be part of this but the sites are not really functional currently and that's a great shame for such an extraordinary archive resource...

The free user thing has already been discussed a bunch of times.  You can read through the other threads where people have complained about it if you want.  You aren't really offering any new discussion.

Paleo7.

I don’t want to sound rude or disrespectful. When it comes to DDownload, they offer subscriptions for €10 a month or €40 a year. Meanwhile, a vinyl record in a store costs around 80,000 pesos here in Argentina—which, at an exchange rate of 1,500 pesos to the dollar, comes to about $53.

Personally, I’m happy to pay for DDownload, especially when Pbthal does such a magnificent job. In fact, Pbthal should be charging an annual membership fee of at least $100. Or are the pieces of equipment he uses for ripping free? Are they just given to him? Is the time and knowledge he invests in creating these digital gems simply handed to him for free?

My friend, spend $40 a year on DDownload and stop complaining!

A big hug.

As I've probably stated several times before, a DDownload subscription is worth every thin dime.

Personally I'm very happy with my DDownload subscription (although I'd be even happier if that money went directly to pbthal himself), but the problem is that there are so many dead links now in the older entries. It's dirt cheap for what we're getting, but doesn't look very reliable in the long term.

Over 16000 uploads over the years, how the hell is he supposed to keep track on all these?
Grab want you can, be thankful that they even have been uploaded at all.

Ask politely in the "Dead links" forum and you might get lucky. 😉

I don't even ask for any reupload because I'd feel bad doing it. I mean, pbthal is doing more than enough by sharing all this stuff whenever he does. If a link of a rip I'm interested in is dead, well, bad luck for me.

I was merely pointing out that DDownload doesn't seem to be great when it comes to the longevity of the uploads. Even the older entries are relatively recent, as every DD link was created some months ago.

Are you serious??? Mega is no way free with this amount of files.

All filehosts have issues, including Mega!

Dear friends!

I think it is time to stop giving attention to those who expect absolutely everything to be available for free. In this world, very few things come without a cost, and good work deserves to be properly valued and paid for. Whether one likes it or not, that is simply the reality.

(((hugs to Every1)))
