Patrick rocks. πππ
Quote from kevin5brown on May 2, 2024, 12:57 amOk, the site changed, and there's this forum now, cool.Β I had an ongoing thread in the old style with a bunch of comparisons I had done vs Patrick's rips, and usually one of his rips won.Β (Aerosmith, and some others.)
I just got done a massive comparison with Trespass by Genesis.Β There is quite a long story here, but in the end, I compared:
V/C Nimbus CD
Jpn VJD CD (same as the black triangle)
CA MCA CD (mostly the same as the US MCA)
Patrick's UK lp rip
A French Charisma lp I ripped
A Jpn 20PP lp I ripped
In the end, Patrick's rip wins.Β The most neutral, balanced, and pleasant listen, which comes alive when cranked.Β I personally would put the V/C Nimbus CD as #2, however, it is smiley faced eq'ed vs the UK lp, but it's still a good balanced listen.Β The French lp comes next.Β Up high, it's very similar to the UK lp, but it has a hair more low end.Β The low end of the Jpn lp is very similar to the low end of the French lp, but up high, it's really subdued, so overall it's too dark, I think.Β The Jpn VJD CD, too bright, and the CA MCA CD, too warm.
I had compared Selling England by the Pound previously, so I think I'm going to truck forward now, to Nursery Cryme next.
Thanks again for a great rip, Patrick!Β π

Quote from kevin5brown on May 3, 2024, 8:02 amI'll look around for it.Β If not, I can check my notes for what I looked at/listened to.Β π
There have been a bunch I've compared over the last few years.Β One other one that stands out is a rip Patrick did for Fair Warning by Van Halen.Β Simply sublimeΒ ..Β Β π

Is the PB rip of Genesis "Trespass" the old 16bit version? Agree that the Nimbus CD was very good, had a couple of cheap re-pressings back in the day always a poor sounding album.
Am loving the recent Genesis Classic record rips PB has done
