It's a great and long new list of albums.  The only ones I have had a chance to listen to so far are The Smiths, which I think was a new rip of the same black ice pressing, but sounds really fantastic.  I also did a side by side of the Boston CSM reflektor and the black ice Friday Music... I'm leaning toward the FM which seems a little brighter and vocals a bit more up front... anyone else have thoughts on this one?

Thanks for that.  I do usually balance the gain when I add a new album to the library.  The CSM has a great sound and I'll probably to another listening tonight.  I won't give up on it.  🙂

*edit*  I did a better balancing this evening and was enjoying the CSM pressing.  The FM does start to sound thin in comparison.  I did the same CSM FM comparison with the REO Speedwagon also, and I liked the CSM better immediately.

I just loaded this one up after reading your comment.  I also think it sounds great.  Maybe like a country Sharon Van Etten?  I've been turned on to a lot of things I hadn't heard of from these rips.

Thanks for the July archive, personally there are two great surprise albums.

First, is the 1971 Joel Scott Hill, John Barbata, Chris Ethridge – L. A. Getaway album. I always heard great reviews of this largely unknown album, and the archive is a great listen. In addition to the three main players, the album has guest performances by Leon Russell, Dr. John, Booker T. Jones, Spooner Oldham, Larry Knechtel, Sneaky Pete, and Clarence White. It’s a well-produced blend of rock, blues and soul, and as many on the Internet believe… a lost masterpiece.

Second is the 1971 album, Stephen Stills 2. I owned this on CD and thought it was compressed and did not listen to it very much, although it’s a great album during Still’s peak run. The sound on the archive is great, enabling me to enjoy the separation of instruments and lyrics. Many of these songs were played during the first concert that I attended 54 years ago on July 29, 1971, when The Stephen Stills Band with the Memphis Horns performed at the Boston Garden.

The 1974 Eric Clapton 461 Ocean Boulevard is also appreciated. The archived version had me totally mesmerized with this album, enjoying like never before. The album always seemed too low key, but this version resulted in newfound appreciation of all the performers.

My final shoutout is to the two great Faces albums, First Step, and Ooh La La. Thanks again for some summer listening!
