June 2025 Archive

Many thanks for the June 2005 album archives!

First, is the compilation Chicken Shack – In The Can. The double album contains the distinctive blues guitar of Stan Webb. He has his own style, but at times gets the special tone heard on the Bluesbreakers featuring Eric Clapton album. Christine McVie also sings and plays keyboards on half the cuts.  On a personal note, the backing band on the non-McVie cuter later backed up Savoy Brown around 1975-76, and I got to share some Southern Comfort when they played backstage at the college that I attended…nice bunch of guys (though RIP almost all of them).

Fleetwood Mac – Future Games (1971) is a very melodic album featuring Danny Kirwin and Bob Welch on guitar, and Christine McVie on vocals and keyboards. I’m a massive Peter Green FM fan, but I also really enjoy this album along with Bare Trees.

J.J. Cale – Troubadour (1976) is greatly appreciated as he is a unique writer and guitarist and always has great accompaniment on his albums.

Savoy Brown – Blue Matter (1969), is one of the original albums that I owned and was played daily. It contains a variety of styles on the studio side including Train to Nowhere. Not the greatest production value, but this UK archive is as good as it will sound. For you Foghat fans, side two includes three cuts sung my Lonesome Dave as the regular vocalist, Chris Youlden couldn’t make the gig. Another personal Note….when SB played at my college, we were yelling for Louisiana Blues (2nd song on live side) and Kim Simmonds replied, “We haven’t played that in a while!”, and honored our request.

Also, special thanks for the two Steely Dans, ZZ Top – Tres Hombres, a great sounding Rod Stewart – Gasoline Alley, and America – History; America’s Greatest Hits
