How do you identify the equipment used for a rip in your collection?

I'm curious about how others manage this in their collections. Do you include the equipment in the file name? If so, how do you abbreviate it to just a few characters (e.g., 3–5 letters)?

Or do you only include the rip date in the file name and keep the equipment details in a catalog, like an Excel sheet?

Any suggestions or examples would be greatly appreciated!

I keep a "comments" tag where I list all the equipment and notes about record and cd editions, etc.

Do you mean a catalog file? So you don't make any marks on the file itself.

Nope, an iD3 tag category. I tag everything with mp3tag. I keep the comments category open for things like technical notes, etc. Then I just make a "comments" column in Foobar or whatever so I can view them.

How do you tag the dec 2024 and jan 2025 releases. Here we don't know what equipment used. It can be old VPI Scoutmaster/AT150ANV Frankencart/Blackice setup or Technics SL-1200 MK2/AT150ANV/Manley Chinook. There must be differances to the sound on these two setups. The preamp always give some sort of touch to the sound.

I just use description PB is using, such as Reflektor, or Black Ice, etc... if I need to read more about the equipment I look at the lineage text that was included.

Currently, I write {REFJAN2025} to refer to January releases. Previously, for example, for March 2024 releases, I wrote BIOMAR2024.

But in the linage text file both setup are mentioned, so there is no way telling what he has used. Or am I missing something?

Edit: See now that some releases now only have one setup in linage text file. Thanks for mention this tiny file. Did look at it when Dec 2024 was released, and both setup's was in the linage text.

Friends,

The 'COMMENT' metadata tag of the December 2024-January 2025 rips states whether it is a 'BLACKICE' or 'REFLEKTOR'.

'BLACKICE' has been in the comment field for a while, and matches the old.

It would have been nice to have the lineage file not say "x or y", but check the comments tag and you will know.
