April 2025 channels swapped (and an unexpected mono rip)

Per my previous post under Pressing Information, I found some rips where the channels were swapped versus my older rips.  I have since gone through all my downloads from April and found a few more.

Where I didn't have an older rip to compare, I used YouTube versions.  I can't verify the YouTube albums are correct, so I can't guarantee that those are all wrong.

Freeways - True Bearings
Fela Ransome-Kuti And The Africa 70 - Confusion (but not Shakara)
ESG - Come Away With ESG (ESG s/t is okay)
Luna Sea - Mother (and is also mistagged - first tracks are side 2)
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (HTM)
R.E.M. - Document (I have an older version)
Styx - Equinox (WLP) (I have an older version)

Another intersting finding: Sun Ra And His Outer Space Arkestra - A Fireside Chat With Lucifer (2020 Reissue) is ripped in mono, but there are no mono versions in Discogs (CD or LP), and all the vinyl for 2020 is stereo.  I verified mono in Audacity - the channels are identical.

Edit: This is out of the 41 rips I downloaded and checked from the April group.

I've repaired the above albums using a batch routine in Audacity.  It didn't take too much time.  You'll need to install the Nyquist channel-mixer plugin.  Installation instructions are here.

  1. Start Audacity
  2. Load the plugin if not already installed.
  3. Create and save a simple macro for the process.  Here's mine
    1. Select All
    2. Channel Mixer  Parameters:  Swap Left-Right preset, otherwise default
    3. Export as FLAC
    4. End
  4. Open Tools > Macro Manager
  5. On the dialogue box that opens, select the new Swap Files macro, then the "Files" button on the bottom.
  6. Drill into the album folder and select all the files, then the "Open" button.  The process will step through all the files and save them to it's macro export directory found here (in Windows): <user>\Documents\Audacity\macro-output\
  7. Move those files to  a subfolder of the original folder (or wherever).
  8. Copy all the original metadata to the new files.  I do this quickly using foobar2000.

And yer done.

Just an FYI, that the new rip of Black Sabbath's Paranoid (2025 Rhino) is OK.  I compared it in Audacity to an older UK pressing rip.  The song "Paranoid" with the left channel guitar opening is identical in both rips.
